Many parents have asked how they can gain access to my classroom pictures, so I am switching to our website on Shutterfly to make that possible. You will be able to order prints, make photo books, and a variety of other gift items. 


All of the website links on this blog are on the website too. The website also has a classroom calendar that parents can edit to sign-up for classroom/lunch volunteering.  If you become a member of the website, you can sign-up for automatic updates so when new things are added, you will be notified. I look forward to your feedback as the year progresses!

Welcome to First Grade!

Hi, my name is Mrs. Magyar and I am going to be your first grade teacher! Welcome to our class blog. What is a blog? Well, a blog is a place where we can share what we are learning with family and friends. We will be able to put pictures on here and write about what we are learning. This will be a special place where we will show how much we have grown this year.

If you are looking at this blog because you got my Puppy Postcard, please write a comment on our blog (with mom or dad's help) and tell me a little about yourself. What is your first name? What did you do this summer? What was your favorite thing about kindergarten?

February Fun

Here are some pictures from February! We wrote Conversation Heart stories with our 5th grade buddies, celebrated the 100th day of school, and decorated Pet Rocks~

Robert Munsch

Our author study for January was Robert Munsch. The students really enjoyed listening to and reading his books. I promised the class I would add a link to his website where students can listen to him reading his books. His books are available at the Canton and Plymouth Libraries if you would like to check them out so students can follow along while listening to him. Listening to reading helps develop fluency by providing a model of what "good reading" sounds like. Mr. Munsch is particularly animated in his readings which really illustrates how to pay attention to punctuation, pacing and expression while reading. As part of our Writing Friendly Letters unit, students are writing a letter to Robert Munsch telling which of his books was their favorite and why.
